Sr. Analyst – Core Sampling Operation

The Sr. Analyst – Core Sampling Operation will lead and oversee the core sampling function to ensure accurate and consistent cane quality analyses (pol, brix, fiber, moisture) that support fair grower payment, process optimization, and operational efficiency. The role safeguards the integrity, reliability, and traceability of sampling data by supervising staff, enforcing sampling standards, and ensuring core sampling and related equipment are maintained and calibrated to required specifications. The incumbent verifies that all bagasse quality parameter analyses are performed in accordance with documented laboratory procedures, and reviews and approves analysis reports in the established format.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Agriculture, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field

  • Basic knowledge of core sampling systems and cane testing methods would be an asset

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the sugar cane industry, cane quality, laboratory analysis, or industrial environment

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of cane quality parameters and sugar extraction processes

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with data and spreadsheets (e.g., Excel)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and teamwork abilities

  • Willing to work rotational shift work, nights, weekends, and during crop season

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operation of the core sampler and associated equipment and ensure proper calibration and maintenance

  • Ensure representative sampling cane consignments

  • Analyze to determine quality parameters such as fiber content, Pol (sucrose), and moisture content of the sugar cane sample 

  • Validate and review results before submission to the Laboratory Supervisor

  • Analyze sampling data and generate daily, weekly, and crop reports

  • Ensure verification and proper operation/maintenance of laboratory instruments

  • Report on maintenance issues on core sampling equipment for timely repairs and servicing

  • Supervise the core sampler operators, lab technicians, and support staff

  • Ensure safe operations of all equipment

  • Enforce PPE usage and safe work practices
