Shift Core Sampler and Shredder Operator

The Shift Core Sampler and Shredder Operator will direct cane delivery vehicles into position under the core sampler and obtain an unbiased cane sample that accurately represents each load delivered to BSI. This role is responsible for accurately sampling all incoming sugar cane, then shredding and homogenizing the sample before depositing it into the CQL.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School diploma in Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)

  • Equivalent technical training is an asset

  • Experience in a sugar factory or industrial plant is preferred

  • Knowledge of cane quality testing, laboratory processes, chemical and food technology, and mechanical equipment operation is an advantage

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in sampling and recording data.

  • Mechanical attitude and ability to operate heavy machinery.

  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills and teamwork abilities.

  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, word).

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced shift-based environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Core Sampler to collect and extract an unbiased representative single cane sample core from incoming sugar cane loads using the core sampling equipment

  • Deliver prepared samples to the wet laboratory for analysis (e.g., sucrose content, fiber, moisture) through the chute

  • Conduct routine checks on sampling and shredding equipment

  • Report mechanical faults or abnormalities promptly to maintenance personnel

  • Ensure sampling accuracy aligns with factory and regulatory standards

  • Liaise with cane scale and ticket booth personnel for smooth flow of cane deliveries to the mill

  • Complete all relevant shift records for submission to the lab Supervisor
