Research & Development Technician
The Research & Development Technician will support the evaluation of varieties according to the defined technical criteria. This will involve setting up trials, monitoring varietal performance, and advancing the most successful varieties.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience in the Agricultural field
Associate’s Degree in Agriculture, Biology or related field
Valid driver’s license
Skills and Competencies:
Team Leader
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to collaborate with various departments and employees
Computer literacy specifically with Microsoft Excel
Understanding the utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and drone technology in the context of sugarcane cultivation
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Reliable and demonstrates a robust work ethic
Roles and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the research and development chief to strategize the selection of varieties for the forthcoming fiscal year, considering the necessary locations and seed specifications
Ensure all field maintenance activities related to variety development are up to date
Create maps of field locations on ArcGIS
Data collection from the stages as defined in the variety evaluation methodology
Process data and format appropriately for statistical analysis
Responsible for the cultivation of foundational nurseries for varieties designated as pre-commercial
Any additional responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor
