Micro-B Technician
The Micro-B Technician will be responsible for conducting microbiological sampling, testing, and analysis to ensure the hygienic quality of raw materials, in-process products, finished sugar, and the processing environment. This role will also encompass support for food safety standards, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of product quality.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with a major in Microbiology, Biology, Laboratory Technology, or a related field.
1–3 years’ experience in laboratory or microbiology (food, beverage, sugar, or agriculture laboratory preferred)
Experience with microbiological plating, culturing, and aseptic techniques would be an asset.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of microbial identification and enumeration methods
Understanding of sugar processing and potential microbial risks (bonus)
Ability to use laboratory instruments and maintain accurate records
High attention to detail and strong analytical ability
High degree of accuracy and ensuring compliance with test procedures and documentation standards
A strong sense of timeliness for delivering microbiological results
Excellent communication and reporting skills
Roles and Responsibilities:
Conduct routine microbiological tests, including total plate count (TPC), yeast and mold counts, and water quality microbiological testing
Perform sample preparation, plating, incubation, and colony enumeration
Collect microbiological samples from raw sugar, syrup, and final sugar, process water, cooling towers, steam condensate, food contact surfaces, equipment, and personnel for environmental monitoring
Record results in laboratory information systems or logbooks with accuracy and traceability
Actively participate as a member of the Microbiology Community of practice in reviewing and revising policies and procedures
Assist in the validation and verification of microbiological equipment
Maintain clean and sterile workspaces using aseptic techniques
Operate and maintain lab equipment such as autoclaves, incubators, microscopes, colony counters
