Engineer, Water Management
The Engineer, Water Management is a team leader with irrigation and drainage experience. Able to manage irrigation and drainage procedures to contribute to increased production in the field. Able to approach agricultural and engineering initiatives from different angles, including technical, financial and business requirements. The position will involve overseeing the water control operations of BSI fields and AgGrowPro fields (where contracted), including managing various budget streams, including routine, special projects, capitals and replacements.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in hydrology, engineering, or a related field.
Degree applied to Agriculture would be preferred.
At least ten (5) years’ previous experience related to water management in an agriculture field. (preferably in sugar cane farming).
Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of soil science, irrigation, and plant nutrition.
Knowledge and awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments, modern precision agriculture techniques, sustainable farming practices and irrigation techniques.
Excellent oral and written communication and training skills to work with field teams.
Leadership and personnel management skills.
Good organizational, budgeting, and record-keeping abilities with a keen eye for details.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other agriculture software and technology.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Design proper field adequation recommendations for optimal drainage and irrigation.
Schedule and monitor the application of irrigation based on the irrigation and drainage plan, and its verification in the field.
Preferred experience in various irrigation applications such as furrow irrigation, reservoir, sprinklers, overhead, and drip irrigation.
Evaluate and coordinate with the agricultural workshop, supply logistics, and field teams to schedule preventive and corrective maintenance of irrigation and drainage motor pumps according to the hours worked by each machine.
Prepare the weekly irrigation and drainage plan and verify it in the field for execution.
Schedule irrigation and drainage activities to be carried out based on field needs.
