Cane Production Officer

The Cane Production Officer is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the agronomy section. The position entails overseeing all activities related to field husbandry; including land preparation, cane planting, fertilization, irrigation, weed and pest control. Additionally, the responsibility of all farm record keeping and other administrative requirements.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Science or related field

  • At least 5 years’ experience in farming (experience in sugar cane would be an asset)

  • Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable safe driving record, and driving skills

 Skills and Competencies: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient knowledge of dealership's computer systems

  • Ability to collaborate with employees, sometimes with several simultaneously

  • Must be a team player with impeccable honesty and integrity

  • Knowledge of GIS and Drone technology and application in sugarcane cultivation

  • Excellent self-motivation, able to motivate others as well

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare weekly planting and cultivation maintenance program and reports

  • Conduct bi-monthly calibration of agricultural equipment (boom sprayers, fertilizer applications, knapsack, motorized sprayers, and any other)

  • Ensure the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures for herbicide and fertilizer applications

  • Program, execute, and report daily field husbandry activities, including mechanical, cultivation, weed control, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control

  • Supervise field workers and oversee farm operations

  • Report unsafe and unethical practices to the Agronomist- Cane Production

  • Prepare daily allocation sheets for employees

  • Prepare daily tractor distribution report

  • Sign and verify daily machine utilization report and irrigation report

  • Conduct any other tasks assigned by the Agronomist– Cane Production and Farm Manager
