Agronomist

The Agronomist responsible for the successful replanting and field maintenance of sugarcane fields, for cane farmers supplying to BSI based on a sustainable agriculture and climate resilient technical package that improves yields.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Science or related field

  • At least 3 years’ of experience in farming (particular experience in sugar cane would be an asset)

  • Must have valid driver's license and an acceptable, safe driving record and driving habit

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite

  • Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments

  • Ability to collaborate with employees, sometimes with several employees at a time

  • Proactive team player

  • Have very good observation skills, with a keen eye for details

  • Be able to motivate others

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Must be reliable with strong work ethic

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field inspections and recommend field for approval

  • Develop planting and field maintenance schedules, Agro-Inputs, budgets, and timelines

  • Prepare weekly Planting and Cultivation Maintenance program and reports

  • Ensure the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures for herbicide and fertilizer applications

  • Conduct regular field assessments to monitor crop health, growth stages, water requirements, and pest/disease issues

  • Program, execute and report daily field husbandry activities; planting germination, weed control, fertilization, and pest control

  • Provide recommendations to Agriculture Team on work practices and procedures

  • Ensure environmental health and safety practices are considered and implemented during the activities

  • Responsible with ensuring that the equipment used in the fields is being used efficiently as per the guidelines and purpose of the project

  • Conduct any other task assigned from time to time
