Agriculture Technician, BSI Farm

The Agriculture Technician, BSI Farm, is responsible for assisting the Supervisor, BSI Farm in the successful farming operation including, but not limited to land prep, planting and field maintenance of sugarcane fields. Field scouting for pests and proper control applications based on supervisors’ recommendations. Supervision of tractor operators and field workers on a daily basis and record keeping of employees’ timesheets.  The BSI farming operations is based on a sustainable agriculture and climate resilient technical practice, that is intended to improve the yields of BSI farms for the purpose of increasing the cane supply to the mill.   

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Agriculture Science or related field

  • At least 3 years’ previous experience in agriculture.

  • Preferable experience in sugar cane farming

 Skills and Competencies: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficient knowledge of dealership's computer systems.

  • Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.

  • Ability to collaborate with various departments and employees.

  • Must be a team player with an impeccable record on honesty and integrity.

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS and Drone technology and application in sugarcane cultivation.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the timely preparation of planning and setting up of the sugarcane fields for planting and maintenance.

  • Conduct regular field assessments to monitor crop health, growth stages, water requirements, and pest/disease issues.

  • Support fertilization, weed and pest control practices as per Supervisor’s recommendations.

  • Supervise the mechanization practices in planting and ratoon maintenance.  

  • Record data based on post field inspection which includes, but not limited to, growth rates, soil moisture, land profile (prone to flood or not), effectiveness of chemical/weed control.

  • Regularly update, after each activity, all work completed.

  • Assist in field trials, soil fertility improvement, pest control, etc.
